Who are you and what is your role in the Coventry University Group?
I started teaching at Coventry over 10 years ago in FBL. I’ve been an Academic Developer for the last 4 years where I teach on the PGCERT APHE. This means I get to meet and work with our incredible staff across all University sites in the UK and abroad. This is possibly the most rewarding role I’ve had because working with educators gives me insight into their teaching realities, they inspire me, but also challenge me so that I’m always motivated to reflect on my own approach.
Something you learnt during the pandemic or something you started (or stopped) doing that you would like to keep doing (or not doing)
Something New: I discovered new ways of working and being in rhythm with my family (yes, it’s possible!), and experienced new depths of what it means to ‘go with the flow’ – how freeing this can be! Something Reinforced: When it comes to teaching, although already a strong advocate of non-tech tools we each possess, such as the power of our voices, movement, and energy to enhance a live session, my appreciation for these aspects grew significantly during the pandemic where it isn’t always possible or equitable to rely on a plethora of tools that demand high bandwidth or cameras to constantly be on. Of course, there’s room for all these wonderful tools to enhance engagement and remain inclusive, but a newfound admiration of the humanity of teaching online will stay with me beyond the pandemic.
